CBHS HIGHGATE-CBC HIGHGATE

Origins Of This Website

In mid 2006, former CBHS Highgate student, Bob Keogh, planned a trip from QLD to Perth for a golfing event and thought
he'd meet up some of his old school mates. A few phone calls later and a group of about 20 blokes met at the old stamping ground - the
Queen's Hotel behind the CBHS Highgate campus. From that, a committee was developed to plan a Reunion for the class that started with
Mrs 'Ma' Brown in 1956 and graduated in Leaving in 1963. In those 9 years, some 105 boys entered and left this Class of 1956-1963.

So 52 blokes attended a very successful Reunion in November 2006 - for which one, Kevin Clarke, travelled from Wisconsin, USA,
for the event, and Kees Van Roon arrived some weeks later from Amsterdam to meet up with some of his old class
mates and spent time with his Perth family.

The 2006 Reunion generated so much enthusiasm the committee decided that we would look at establishing a CBHS Highgate-CBC Highgate
'Old Boys' association of some sort. From this grew the idea of a website which gave the history of CBHS-CBC Highgate and a summary
of all the other Christian Brothers colleges operating around WA since 1894.

In October 2007, younger CBHS boys, in John Kaminski and Tony Notte, spoke again of forming this association, connecting itself to the Trinity
College Old Boys Association (TOBA) because these boys had a contact with Trinity in their later school years. A John Parker was
contacted and subsequently met with CBC Kalgoorlie old boy Ric Marr - they discussed the very successful Old Boys association the
Kalgoorlie group have been running for 5 years and the remarkable twin books and CDs they had put out on CBC Kalgoorlie.

A call was put out to CBHS Highgate boys and the general feeling was that a CBHS Highgate-CBC Highgate Old Boy Association
be set up independently of any other school. And the growing association is what has developed as a result.

Independently of all this, a committee chaired by Michael Perrott and assisted by Executive Officer, Maureen Colgan, formed of former
Christian Brothers boys from all schools and colleges to give the Brothers a public "Thank You" for their 100+ years of effort in WA. This
grand 'Edmund Rice' event was held at Burwood on 26 August 2007 with some 1500 people attending - it was considered a roaring success.
