Note from Bishop Peter Quinn's nephew, our old boy and classmate, Peter Thompson, sent to John Parker.
Hello again John,
Uncle Peter is having two memorial services, one in Perth and the other in Bunbury, where he was Bishop for many years.
The services are to be held on the 2nd and 3rd of September as follows:
(Tuesday 2nd September at 7.00pm at Morley, and Wednesday 3rd September at 11.00am at Bunbury).
Peter passed away
peacefully, at home yesterday evening.
He was stoic to the end and when asked about the pain or the progress of the cancer
merely commented that it was just another part of his faith journey.
Thanks to you and all
from Highgate for your kind thoughts.
All the best, Peter Thompson

Bishop Peter Quinn
CBHS Class of 1942.
Bishop Peter Quinn passed away at his home in Bedford, on Saturday evening, the 23 August 2008.
Bishop Peter Quinn was an icon to CBHS Old Boys, and he will be sadly missed.
Bishop Quinn attended our major CBHS functions and was the main Celebrant at the CBHS Reunion
held in 1992 at the Highgate Church and College , and at the 50 year Golden Jubilee Mass in 1986.
I spoke with Bishop Quinn last year when I telephoned him at his home in Bedford, to have a chat, and
advised him that we had set up a Highgate Old Boys website.
Bishop Quinn was most pleased with the idea and encouraging of gathering archival history on CBHS.
Even though he was officially retired, he still worked, and spent lot of time at the Mount Lawley
Hospice where he comforted and prayed for many that had terminal illnesses.
I was amazed at the energy that Bishop Quinn had. He never stopped working.
I first met Bishop Quinn when I attended an Official Opening Ceremony at the Infant Jesus School in
Morley in 1979. The occasion was to dedicate the new School Library that I was the Builder and Architect for.
There is a silver plaque on the wall at the Infant Jesus School Library with both our names on it.
I didn't realise the connection Bishop Quinn had with CBHS until we had a chat and a cup of tea after the ceremony.
It was great to have conact with another CBHS Old Boy who has done so much for our community.
Bishop Quinn will be sadly missed by many, and will be remembered by many.
On behalf of the CBHS Old Boys Association we extend our condolences to his family.

A Note from Tony Notte, CBHS Class of 1968.
Bishop Quinn has represented the Archbishop on a number of occasions over the past few years at an annual
street procession and feast day mass held in honour of Our Lady of Sorrows on the third Sunday of September
each year at Our Lady’s Assumption Church in Dianella. Bishop Quinn will be sadly missed.
I am the Treasurer of the association that runs the procession and feast day mass.
Attached is a 1939 photo of Bishop Quinn from his time at CBHS, and a CBHS Roll Call for 1939.
Bishop Quinn was with the very first group of CBHS boys enrolled at the new Christian Brothers
College in Highgate that was built in 1936. The Classes at that time were only Grade 4, Grade 5, Grade 6,
1st Year, 2nd year, Junior University Class.
Also attached are pages from The CBHS Chronicle 1939.

Bishop Quinn commenced at CBHS at Grade 5 in 1938.

Bishop Peter Quinn was a foundation member of St Charles' Seminary in Guildford WA in 1942 at the age of 15.
He was ordained to the priesthood in Rome on 21 December 1950 at the age of 23.
He was appointed assistant priest at Sacred Heart Parish at Highgate in 1955,
Archbishop's Secretary in 1959, founding parish priest of St. Gerard Majella Parish Mirrabooka in 1965,
and the administrator of St Mary's Cathedral and Vicar General in 1969.
In 1969 he was appointed Auxilliary Bishop of Perth and became Parish Priest of Holy Rosary Parish, Nedlands.
In 1982 he was made Bishop of Bunbury where he served until his retirement at Bedford WA in 2001.
Even in his retirement Bishop Quinn continued to do pastoral work at the Mount Lawley Hospice,
caring for the sick and terminally ill.
"Laetamini in Domino"
May he rest in peace with God.
We have received a sympathy message from Karl Paganin, who is the son of CBHS Old Boy the late Arthur Paganin.
Arthur Paganin attended CBHS at the same time as Peter Quinn and they are both in the 1939 Grade 6 photo shown above.
Artrhur Paganin and Bishop Peter Quinn remained good friends throughout their lifetimes.
Arthur Paganin started "W.A. Marble & Granite" in Scarborough Beach Rd Osborne Park and was involved with a lot of
marble construction work for the Catholic Church in Perth and community.
In particular the original "carrara" white marble communion rails at Saint Brigids Church in Fitzgerald St West Perth were
made by Arthur's company, W.A. Marble & Granite.
Karl Paganin is the Executive Director of Euroz Securities Limited and is very prominent in the Perth Business community.

At the commencement of the Mass there was a video picture presentation of the life of Bishop Peter Quinn.
The first picture shown was the CBHS Highgate Class photo of 1939 shown above.
At the conclusion of the Mass, Vince Thompson (CBHS 1964) delivered a very moving Eulogy recalling his
many wonderful experiences with his "Uncle" Peter and the many holidays and travels they spent together.
Vince also recalled some wonderful anecdotes of Bishop Peter Quinn.
A request of Bishop Peter Quinn was that the Salve Regina be sung at the Mass, after Communion.
Salve Regina
Salve Regina, Mater misericordiae
Vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.
Ad te clamamus, exsules filii Hevae.
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
in hac lacrimarum valle.
Eia ergo, Advocata nostra,
illos tuos misericordes oculos ad nos converte.
Et Jesum, benedictum fructus ventris tui,
nobis post hoc exsilium ostende.
O clemens, O pia, O dulcis, Virgo Maria.
A number of CBHS Highgate Old Boys attended the Requiem Mass for Bishop Peter Quinn.
